Ajuan Mance

My art, comics, and illustration are deeply informed by my decades-long career as a Professor of African American literature at Mills College and by my current work as Professor of Illustration at CCA (California College of the Arts). In my art and my scholarship, I work to bring to light the stories of those Black lives and legacies that have been overlooked. I seek to create portraits that reflect the complex interactions between joy, grief, humor, and struggle that shape Black lives, past and present.
